HCPC Goal
Greater efficiency is achieved by eliminating redundancy and resolving scheduling conflicts through a unified system that all coordinators can access within a designated time frame. This approach fosters an equitable, transparent, automated, and streamlined environment, enabling both clinical and academic partners to secure and track nursing clinical placements efficiently.
History
Recognizing the need for improved coordination of clinical placements for nursing students, the Center partnered with the Foundation for California Community Colleges (FCCC) in March 2011 to introduce the Centralized Clinical Placement System (CCPS), a web-based platform, to Hawai‘i. Building on this initiative, the Center established the Hawaiʻi Clinical Placement Collaborative in 2012, marking a significant step toward enhancing clinical placement processes statewide.

HCPC Steering Committee & Partners
The HCPC is guided by the HCPC Steering Committee, a dedicated group of professionals committed to advancing clinical placement coordination. The committee includes representatives from hospitals and healthcare organizations—such as nursing administrators and clinical education coordinators—as well as academic leaders like deans of nursing schools and academic clinical placement coordinators. Together, they provide strategic direction for the program by addressing key challenges in student clinical placements and promoting the adoption of standardized tools and processes.
Leadership within the Steering Committee is shared by two co-chairs: one representing academia and the other representing clinical sites. This collaborative leadership model ensures a balanced approach that reflects the priorities of both nursing schools and healthcare providers, fostering strong and effective partnerships.
The committee meets regularly to discuss ongoing initiatives, participate in training sessions, and address emerging needs through ad hoc meetings as required. By leveraging the collective expertise and insights of its members, the HCPC Steering Committee plays a pivotal role in supporting the success of clinical placements statewide.
